A gentle six mile circular starting at our base of Chirk Castle, this route is offered as a led walk with our knowledgeable local Ramblers group for those who would like a challenge but are less confident at map reading or as a self-led walk for those who are a little more confident.
The route leaves Chirk Castle passing through its estate grounds to join quiet lanes with views of the castle. Leaving the lanes, you will pass through a couple of fields before re-joining the quiet lanes with views across the English Countryside. Once across the A5 you will join the Llangollen Canal. Along the Llangollen Canal you will pass through the Whitehouse Tunnel (you may want to bring a torch with you!) and then enjoy a level towpath along the wooded banks of the canal, with passing barges and plenty of ducks. At Chirk you will leave the towpath and cross back over the canal crossing a small field and then a lane before entering the estate grounds of the castle and a gentle climb through the pastures to Chirk Castle and a much-deserved tea and cake.
Sturdy footwear recommended and a torch may be advisable.
