We’ve been notified by the Ramblers head office that groups such as ours should hold their Annual General Meeting this year despite the current restrictions which are in place regarding groups of more than 6 people gathering together. To get around these restrictions the Ramblers is recommending that this year's AGM is bo be conducted online.

Our Group Committee has been discussing this and we have agreed to proceed with an online AGM. However, we are aware that not all of our members will have the necessary computer skills or equipment to take part.

With regard to computer skills, the software we have chosen to hold the AGM online, Zoom, is probably already being used by many of you to keep in touch with relatives and friends during the pandemic. Even if you haven’t used Zoom before and don’t have it installed on your computer, you can still take part by simply clicking on the link we will send you before the meeting.

If you don’t have a computer or feel unsure about how to use it to access Zoom, then there are two options available to you:

1. You can “buddy-up” with another member who does have a computer and/or is more confident, or

2. You can participate in the meeting over your telephone using the number we will provide

The date of the AGM is Sunday, November 1st, 2020, starting at 2pm. We will send you the necessary links about a week beforehand.

The agenda for the meeting is attached along with a copy of the minutes of last year’s AGM.

At this stage, all current office holders on the Committee have indicated that they are prepared to stand for another year.  However, new members of the Committee are always welcomed and anyone who wishes to nominate for a position is invited to do so, either in writing beforehand or at the meeting itself.

There is one vacancy which is the group’s representative on the Area Committee.  This is an important role which involves attending quarterly meetings of the Area Committee.  The Area Representative normally sits on the Group Committee as well. If you think you would like to stand for this position, you can do so at the AGM or let me know in advance along with the name of someone who can second your nomination.

Remember: if you want to propose any resolutions to be considered at the AGM these have to be submitted to me no later than Sunday, October 18, 2020.  Of course, you can raise any matters under General Business after the formal part of the meeting is completed.  The two week notice restriction only applies to formal resolutions to change the Constitution or the way the Group conducts its affairs.
