Overview

From the Fox Inn Ansty we will follow Mash Water to Binghams Melcombe and ascend Combe Hill. We will follow the bridleway to Gallows Corner and head east via Hewish and Luccombe before descending into the iconic village of Milton Abbas passing the church, where we plan to take our picnic lunch.

We will resume and walk through the grounds of Milton Abbey School and enter the woods above Delcombe Bottom to the summit of Bullbarrow Hill. We will follow the Wessex Way to Rawlsbury Camp above Balmers Coombe and make our way back to The Fox for optional after walk refreshments.

There are approximately seven stiles, and we will be walking on mainly paths and bridleways. There are two short sections of ploughed fields and a section of road on the Wessex Way. Anticipate mud in some sections so wear appropriate footwear and waterproof clothing. Packed lunch required.  The group maintain a brisk pace but have regular stops. There are no public toilets on route.

Distance 13 miles  (21km) 1,730 feet ascent (530m) . There are two moderate but long ascents and one steep descent into Milton Abbas.
