Overview

Stag Walkers are delighted to invite you to our Annual Get-Together of Members 2023 on Saturday, 11th November at 11am.

This is an opportunity for members to catch up on what we’ve been doing over the last year, give feedback on your experience in the group, thank the volunteers who make all our activities possible, elect the organising committee that will steer Stag Walkers through the year to come - and enjoy some lunch and a walk together!

RSVP through the Stag Walkers Meetup group or by email to stagwalkers@gmail.com.

This year we’ll be meeting in the morning at Cinnabar in Hitchin town centre. After the official business we can have lunch here - the menu includes artisan pizzas, burgers and light bites.

Then at 2pm there’s the option of a short walk to Oughtonhead Common, the award-winning nature reserve on the edge of Hitchin (please see separate walk listing for details and booking).

We hope you can join us and show your support at this important event in the Stag Walkers calendar.

As with all Ramblers groups, Stag Walkers’ activities are arranged by an enthusiastic team of volunteer members. At the AGM, the group committee will give a brief report of our activities throughout the previous year, before the current office holders stand down from their roles.

Some committee members will stand for re-election, but we’ll have some vacancies to fill - and new volunteers are welcome to stand for any committee position.

Would YOU like to join the team?

The committee roles are:

• Group Chair
- keeping a strategic overview of Stag Walkers’ activities and supporting committee members in their roles

• Group Secretary
- arranging committee meetings, taking minutes etc.

• Group Treasurer
- overseeing finance and preparing annual accounts

• Group Membership Secretary
- welcoming new walkers to our group, keeping track of Stag Walkers membership

• Walks Programme Coordinator (2 roles)
- creating and promoting a varied and interesting walk programme

• Group Publicity Officer & Social Media Officer
- promoting Stag Walkers to local media and the public; raising the profile of the group on various social media channels

• Group Webmaster
- maintaining our website stagwalkers.org.uk

• Group Newsletter Editor
- communicating upcoming walks, social events and Ramblers work via email to opted-in members

• Group Social Secretary
- organising and promoting social events for members

• Area Council Representative
- liasion with local Ramblers Area, attending Area meetings every 3 months

You can see full descriptions of each role via the event pages on our Meetup and Facebook groups, or email us for the details.

Being part of the committee gives you the chance to give something back to your group, have your say in what the group does, gain new skills and experience, add a volunteer role to your CV and help promote the Ramblers.

Most roles can be carried out by a team of two or more people instead of just an individual, if you would like to get involved but not go it alone.

If you’re interested in standing for a role or would like more information, please get in touch via email - stagwalkers@gmail.com - or chat to us on a walk. Volunteering is interesting, fun and rewarding; so why not join the team?

Note: anybody can attend the AGM, but only members of Stag Walkers (with Ramblers membership) are allowed to vote and run for election. To join Ramblers as a Stag Walkers member, or change your home group to Stag Walkers, see our group website.

What’s the address?

Cinnabar, 8 High Street, Hitchin SG5 1BH.

We’ll be in the Garden Lounge area at the back of the venue, which is accessible from both the High Street (just off the main square in the town centre) and Jackson’s Yard car park to the rear.

Recommended parking nearby at the Lairage multi-storey car park, Bedford Road, Hitchin SG5 1GN (£4.55 for over 3 hours).

For those using public transport, Hitchin town centre is well served by local buses and just under a mile from Hitchin railway station.

If you’d like to attend the meeting but can’t stay for lunch, feel free to come along just for the reports and elections - these should take less than an hour.

If you can't make it to the AGM but would like to give feedback or stand for the committee then please drop an email to stagwalkers@gmail.com. We encourage all our members to get involved in volunteering for a role or voting for the candidates. We hope to see you on 11th November!
