Sunday, 21 August 2022 (Group: Dorset 4050 Walkers)
Start time 9:45
Moderate 13.7 miles / 22.1 km (Estimated finish time: 16:15)
Description
A fairly demanding walk (and the usual fairly brisk 4050s pace) as we start low, and most of the first 7 miles is an ascent to varying degrees. Starting not far from the coast north west of Abbotsbury we climb inland quite steeply, as the walk has over 650 metre (2,000 feet) elevation. We leave the village of Puncknowle (‘Punnell’) stopping briefly at The Knoll (a 19thC look-out and signal station with sea views) before climbing toward Litton Cheney, onward and upward through West Compton to the 200 metres of iron-age Eggardon Hill for a lunch stop and lovely views south. Returning on the downward leg through Askerswell and across the A35 we return to our start point for refreshments. Expect Dorset’s usual fields and tracks en route.
To book a place, please use the link in Additional Information below. Numbers will be limited to 20 for this walk.
