SUB GROUP - INVERNESS YOUNG WALKERS (IYW)
Join us on what might be a very nice walk (if the weather allows!), as we begin by climbing Creag Bheag from Kingussie*, follow the edge of Loch Gynack, cross a moor with grand views of distant mountains towards Newtonmore, and then follow the cycle path back to Kingussie.
Creag Bheag (273 m ascent) is a good beginner's hill with excellent views from the summit. We will make our way up slowly and stop for a late morning snack/tea break at the summit. We'll then descend on the back, looking out over Loch Gynack, before crossing the moorlands between Kingussie and Newtonmore. We'll also stop for a packed lunch stop along the way where we find a suitable location. The last part of the walk is a paved cycle path from Newtonmore to Kingussie.
*If the weather is bad, we will follow a river through woodland around Creag Bheag to Loch Gynack, instead of climbing the hill.
Terrain - Creag Bheag is steep and rocky in places (both the ascent and descent). The wood- and moorland sections are good paths but with some rough/muddy sections. Cycle path between Newtonmore and Kingussie is paved.
