Start time: 10:30
(Estimated finish time: 13:00)
Moderate 6.5 miles / 10.5 km
Start from the Askwith Arms, formally the Black Horse in the tiny hamlet of Askwith north west of Otley. This pleasant walk takes us along Hallam Lane then across a footbridge over Mill Dam Beck and through farms anf lovely green pastures passing Noward Edge mast. We make our way along a wide walled track with Dob Park Lodge coming into view on the right. The Lodge was a hunting lodge at the heart of a deer park in the early 1600’s owned by the Vavasours who were the local “Lords of the Manor”. It is said that the Lodge was shelled by Cromwell’s army during the Civil War before the owners were able to flee with their belongings. This will be a convenient spot to stop for lunch. From Bob Park, we make our way to Stoop Hill, through Brickhouse Plantation and return to Askwith village.
