"Four Gates" Nelson's Pit CP, Poynton 7-8 mls
Saturday, 16 June 2018
Start time: 11:00
Leisurely 7.5 miles / 12.1 km
The walk will start from Nelson’s Pit at 11.00am. We will follow the path over the canal, passing the farms and through our first gate (South) into Lyme Park. We then follow the path for a short while until we turn right up a slight hill and down the other side and then turn leftt and go over a stile. We follow the path downwards until we get to the second gate. (west) We follow the path through Hase Bank Wood and back into Lyme Park and then go up some steps and eventually arrive at the old cottage (recently refurbished). We will stop here for lunch. After lunch we walk behind Lyme Hall and enter Knightslow Wood and follow the Gritstone trail for a short while. When we come out of the wood we turn sharp left and follow the trail and eventually come out on the Gritstone trail the other side of Lyme Hall. We turn right down the trail until we reach the third gate (North). We continue on the Gritstone trail all the way to near Disley Station where we turn left and go down Red Lane. At the end of Red Lane we re-enter Lyme Park and pass the forth gate (East) (entrance to the Park from A6).
We walk straight on past Elmehurst cottages and into Ryles Wood. When we leave the wood we then turn left down the side of the canal all the way back to Nelson Pit. This walk will be an easy stroll, one or two little climbs and one or two stiles about 7-8 miles long. I have booked good weather!!
