Strenuous 13 miles / 20.9 km
Circular walk via Hadleigh Country Park and Visitors' Centre, with good views over the estuary, the picturesque resort of Leigh on Sea, a circuit of Two Tree Island, now a nature reserve with two bird hides, and returning to Benfleet along the estuary path. Hills in the morning, but otherwise flat. Lunch stop in Leigh-on-Sea with several pubs and cafes, but please bring own picnic, as these can get very crowded. This is also a possible drop-out point. Train from Fenchurch Street at 09:25, calling at Barking at 09:40. Check trains the day before. Buy return ticket to Benfleet.
