Travel: Take the 09:12 from London Kings Cross,(Finsbury Park 09:18) arrives Arlesey at 09:50.
Buy a return to Letchworth Garden City and single from Hitchin to Arlesey.
Follow the wildlife-rich riverside meadows of the Hiz River, leading to the hilltop village of Meppershall. The walk then offers far views south to the Chilterns and north to the Greensand Ridge, before heading to the hilltop church in Shillington. Green lanes then lead to the pretty village of Pirton and remains of a motte-and-double bailey and traces of an abandoned medieval village. The Ickneald Way then leads to Britain's first garden City: Letchworth. We will stop at a pub at lunchtime but due to time constraints please bring a packed lunch. We will also have a short pub stop in the afternoon. Please use toilet facilities on the train as there are none at Arlesey
