Two Warrens, Any Rabbits? Walk Sunday July 22 2018
Sunday, 22 July 2018
Meeting time: 8:15
Start time: 9:30
(Estimated finish time: 16:00)
Moderate 12 miles / 19.3 km
I had intended to include the Rock of Ages on this walk but the path out of the gorge is too steep. People would have either not assented to the ascent or dissented from the descent. For a walk leader the safety of the group is paramount, I did not consider this path safe.
The walk will start at the Burrington Ham car park and go up on to the Mendips following bridlepaths and footpaths. After entering Long Wood we'll join the West Mendip Way which we'll stay on through Tyning's Farm, into Rowberrow Warren and on to Shipham where there will be the lunch stop on the green and a visit to the "Penscot Inn". The walk will continue to Star and head towards Churchill before the steep climb up to Dolebury Warren hill fort. From there the walk will follow the Limestone Link east then finally back down to Burrington Ham.
Free car park on Kennedy Way, Yate, opposite Kennedy Way Surgery.
