Start time: 14:00
(Estimated finish time: 16:30)
Leisurely 3 miles / 4.8 km
This beautiful estate is home to Penicuik House ruins, a magnificent XVIII century building that “perfectly embodies the ideals of Palladian architecture“ in http://www.penicuikhouse.co.uk.
Something that really surprised me was to find out that the estate is roughly 500 hectares of Designed Landscape, established in the early 1700s.
The plan is to do a 4 mile circular walk around the estate, with a stop for a snack at the Penicuik house building (that also has a lovely small cafe).
Still to be confirmed is a visit to the lost garden of Penicuik, now a community project to restore the upper walled garden where the local community can use the land to grow fruit and vegetables for their own use (http://garden.penicuikcdt.co.uk)
NOTE: Babies in slings or back carriers are welcome (not suitable for buggies). Dogs will have to be kept in leads all the time.
How to get there:
Lothian Buses 15 or 37 or Stagecoach buses 101 or 102 will leave you at a 30 minute walk from the car park.
Please contact me using the email below if you would like a ride:
(Car share would be advisable. So if someone can offer a space, use the comments to let the others know)
