(Estimated finish time: 16:30)
Strenuous 12 miles / 19.3 km
Celebrate the clocks going forward with a walk starting from the hilltop village of Heptonstall then descending along the wooded valley of Crimsworth Dean before ascending up onto moorland affording fine views across to Stoodley Pike and the surrounding hills.
We will join the Pennine Way for a mile or two on the return to Heptonstall where there will then be the opportunity to explore the cobbled streets of the village and have refreshments before heading home.
Heptonstall Social and Bowling Club, free but donations to the club appreciated. It is signposted on the left as you head up to the village; if you end up on the restricted access cobbled street you’ve gone too far!

This is a circular walk
Generally on good paths but there are sections which are likely to be muddy; there is one section on the return which follows a rocky path above a steep woodland hill, whilst not extreme, it may be unsuitable for those who don’t have a head for heights.
Please contact me in advance if you wish to bring a dog with you so that we can discuss suitability of the walk as there are restrictions in place on certain sections due to livestock.
Cheshire Walkers is a friendly, welcoming walking group covering North & Mid Cheshire and the surrounding area. We have members throughout Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and North Wales.
