A chance to explore Shrawley Wood at a time when it is often covered by carpets of bluebells.
The walk starts in the village of Astley Burf and follows a track into the wood that runs parallel to the River Severn. Watch out for llamas in the fields either side.
The wood was designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1955 because of its biological interest and because it is a large tract of ancient woodland almost completely dominated by coppiced small-leaved lime.
We walk along woodland trails and open fields to the village of Shrawley. We continue on to Shrawley Brook before returning to Shrawley Wood through attractive rolling landscapes with fine views across to the Abberley Hills.
At the end of the walk, there is a pub in the form of the newly refurbished Hampstall Inn.
For car share, Sandwell Road car park, West Bromwich.
