East Dean and the Airshow
Saturday, 17 August 2019
Start time: 10:30
(Estimated finish time: 18:00)
Strenuous 17 miles / 27.4 km
Note that we will not be visiting the air show - we will be walking through an area close by, from where the planes should be viewable.
We start walking at 10.30am - please arrive in good time. Please also bring a packed lunch.
Leaving the pretty village of East Dean in the valley. We walk though the Crowlink and join the Seven Sisters halfway through, warning this walk is hilly. We join the South Downs Way stopping for a break at Birling Gap, we continue around the Belle Tout and Shooters Bottom to Beachy Head where we will be stopping for a packed lunch.
With the Airshow in Eastbourne the afternoon will be a case of watching the planes as we walk along the South Downs ridge as curves around the outside of Eastbourne up to the top of Jervington Hill. We turn west into the village of Jervington and stopping the pub for a drink only.
After we will be walking over Oldkiln Bottom and though Lullington Heath National Nature Reserve, this section of the walk menders up and down the Long Brow and Friston Hill both of which are inside Friston Forest. Passing around Friston Place down the hill back into the village of East Dean.
