Meet Warmley Station car park to car share for 9am departure.
The walk starts at The George Inn, Abbots Leigh (A369) – there are a few parking spaces in the lane opposite the pub, so car shares are helpful.
Initially we will pass through the village of Abbots Leigh, which has been inhabited in the past few hundred years by some of the wealthy entrepreneurs of Bristol, before heading West, through open fields and woodland, as we descend towards the village of Portbury for lunch. (The Priory Inn is available for anyone interested). After lunch there is a steady climb East, passing through the Tanpit woods, which used to supply Oak for the tanning industry. Onwards to Abbots Pool which sourced fish in Medieval times, became a water feature on the Wills estate in the 1920’s, and is now managed by the council for the benefit of the public. From this scenic point there is a short walk back to The George to conclude the walk.
