Moderate 8.5 miles / 13.7 km
This classic walk takes in the highlights of Malhamdale: starting off with a stroll through the woods to Janet’s Foss, a rocky scramble up Gordale Scar, then ambling along to Malham Tarn. We return to the village along part of the Pennine Way via the impressive limestone pavement above Malham Cove.
This moderate walk is around 8.5 miles long and will be taken at a leisurely pace but please note that it does involve a short scramble up the side of Gordale Scar so you will need good footwear and to be prepared to do a bit of easy climbing up the side of the waterfall. Please contact me if you would like further details about what this involves or have any other questions about the walk.
Due to the scrambling section this walk is not suitable for dogs.
The car park in Malham costs £4.50 for the day and there are toilets. It does get busy here as it’s a popular destination so car sharing is recommended.
Start time is 10:00, it’s not a long walk so we should be finished nice and early, probably by around 3pm, which will leave plenty of time for some refreshments in the village before heading home.
