Strenuous 8.8 miles / 14.1 km
A circular walk high in the Carneddau, taking in three of Wales's highest seven peaks. On a clear day there are spectacular views of the Glyderau and Tryfan.
We start with a grade-one scramble up Pen-yr-Ole-Wen (978 m), then follow the ridge to Carnedd Dafydd (1044 m). From here we ascend to the summit of Carnedd Llewelyn (1064 m), before making the steep descent via a scramble down from Penywaun-Wen to Ffynon Llugwy lake.
Please park at the Gwern Gof Isaf campside, off the A5 (not to be confused with nearby Gwern Gof Uchaf campsite!). Parking costs £2 for the day (please knock at the farmhouse door to pay), and toilets and a drinking-water tap are available.
Please note that this is a stenuous walk with sections of scrambling, both up and down. There is a total of more than 1000m of ascent. Sorry, but this route is not suitable for dogs.
Gwern Gof Isaf campsite, off A5 (Please do not confuse with nearby Gwern Gof Uchaf).
