Start time: 13:30
(Estimated finish time: 17:00)
Moderate 9 miles / 14.5 km
We start this walk at the clock tower (erected in 1920) in the pretty village of Hinxworth, heading east from where the church tower at Ashwell is visible. We then turn north towards Dunton, walking through open countryside, passing by Plantation Farm. At Dunton we will see St Magdalene Church which dates from the 14th century, although the tower was refurbished in the 19th century.
After a quick stop to look around the church we will make our way back to Hinxworth. En route it will be possible to see the 801ft tall TV mast at Sandy Heath in the distance (weather permitting). We will then adjourn (for those who wish to) to The Three Horseshoes pub for some light refreshments.
Starting point of the walk: meet by the clock tower war memorial, High Street, Hinxworth, SG7 5HQ. There are a few spaces in the car park of The Three Horseshoes, where we are allowed to park by kind permission of the landlord, but if full, please park considerately around the village.
Please note: we may require you to produce your Ramblers membership card at the start of this walk. Prospective new members are welcome to join us for up to three walks before joining.
