Moderate 11 miles / 17.7 km
This walk explores the borders of Hampshire and Wiltshire with its hills, rolling countryside and woodland. We used bridle paths, downland tracks, paths and roads, navigating a number of stiles and involving some gentle hill climbing.
We begin the walk from the top car park of the ‘The Hachet Inn’ Lower Chute, which is a 13th Century thatched village pub with cosy rooms. We head off in the direction of Hippenscombe crossing the Chute Causeway an old Roman road. This walk differs from previous walks I have started from Lower Chute in that we turn west towards New Zealand Farm returning for lunch at The Hatchet Inn via Upper Chute. This is approximately 7.5 miles and over three hours taking into account a morning break.
The afternoon is a circuit walk of about 3 miles miles and explores the southern gentler countryside around Chute Forest. The total distance AM / PM is just under 11 miles
Please note a prompt start is required since lunch is booked for 13.00.
