Moderate 13.5 miles / 21.7 km
Initially we will follow parts of the Vanguard Way to Chalvington Church before heading onto Ripe Church. We then cross country to Laughton Church, the reamins of Laughton Place and onto Selmeston Church (the final resting place of Frederick Mockford, the originator of the Mayday distress call in 1923) and back onto the Vanguard Way as we head back into Berwick.
Meet at Berwick Inn, opposite Berwick Railway Station. Parking permitted in the pub car park. OSMAP EXP123 / OL25
This is a circular walk
19 stiles, lots of brambles/nettles and can get very muddy - so be warned! On the plus side the walk has great views of the countryside and the Downs.
This is one of hundreds of Ramblers group walks for all ages and abilities every week - all led by our experienced walk leaders. You’re welcome to join us on any of our walks to see if the Ramblers is for you. Then, once you’ve enjoyed the views, fun, exhilaration and good company, it’s just a case of becoming a member.
Do make sure you're fit enough and have the right footwear and clothing for the walk you want to do, though. You can contact the group or leader if in doubt.
