Public Transport walk -- An 8 miles linear walk from Hagley via Clent Hills to Waseley Hills Country Park.
If you are interested, please contact the walk leader and book this walk by Wednesday 21 July.
Leaving Hagley train station we walk through West Hagley to pick up the North Worcestershire Path, which we follow mainly all the way to Waseley Hills Country Park. Reaching Hagley we then skirt the parkland of Hagley Hall, owned by the Lyttleton family since 1564 – although the present house was built in the middle of the 18th century. We then ascend Adam’s Hill, one of the 3 Clent Hills, and at the toposcope admire the panoramic views. A little further on we come to the ‘four stones’, which are just a folly. Here there is another toposcope erected by the Rotary Club in 1929 and refurbished on the Club’s 75th anniversary in 1997.
From here we follow a National Trust trail, eventually descending near to the NT car park, and making for the second hill, Walton Hill. A short ascent brings us to the summit at 315 metres where there is an old trig point. From here we follow a beautiful path just below a ridge with views into the valley deep below us. Here we shall have our picnic on a grassy slope with the harebells and the only sound that of the birdsong. Continuing on a gradual descent through woodland to Calcot Hill, we then veer left to descend to Shut Mill Lane. Crossing this road we go up Winwood Heath Road, which ascends quite steeply the slopes of Romsley Hill with woodland on either side. From here it is an easy path to descend to the B4551, and then cross the M5. A short walk then brings us to the Visitor Centre at Waseley Hills Country Park, where we can take well-earned refreshment. Toilets are also available here.
A short walk then brings us to Boleyn Street and the bus stop for the no. 63, which, in a journey of about 50 minutes, takes us all the way back to New Street station. We should be back at Tile Hill/Coventry around 17.30.
Coventry train station.
From Coventry we take the 08.50 London Northwestern train (08.57 from Tile Hill), arriving Birmingham New Street at 09.23. We transfer to Snow Hill station where we take the 09.54 train arriving Hagley at 10.26.
