Strenuous 13 miles / 20.9 km
A circular walk over the lesser known Black Mountain peaks of Garreg Lwyd, Foel Fraith, Esgair Hir & Carreg yr Ogof. The walk then descends towards Ty-Brych before regaining a little of the height lost up the Sawdde Valley. A bridle way takes us across the flanks of Truman to reach the A4069. There is a short walk along the A4069 before we ascend steeply to the old quarry workings at Pantyfynnon.
Highlights are the views of Carreg Cennen Castle from Foel Fraith & the Bronze age cairns on Esgair Hir.
The weather can change dramatically so it is essential participants bring some warm waterproof clothing & wear boots. Note when reccied the bridleway across Truman was wet when everywhere else was bone dry. Please also bring enough food & drink for a 7 hour strenous walk.
The walk is limited to 20 persons excluding the walk leader.

Mountain Road Car Park on the A4069 near Herbert's Quarry. Crossing the Black Mountain from Brynamman towards Llangadog park in the carpark on the right before the view point a Rhiw Wen (if you reach the Mountain Road Viewpoint you have gone too far).

Strenuous - walks for experienced country walkers with an above average fitness level. May include hills and rough country, and may be at a brisk pace. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential. People in doubt about their fitness should contact the organiser or leader in advance.
