After decades where little investment was made in Clyne Country Park, (Swansea’s only Country Park), the council has accessed £100,000 Sustainable Landscapes, Sustainable Places Funding and Active Travel Funding to upgrade paths and regenerate the park.
We’ll see part of the new ‘Active Travel’ route, a wide tarmacadam path laid over the Bridleway, designated as ‘shared use’ but really created for cyclists (We probably won’t see any cyclists!).
It does however allow more of the general public to explore the area, making it feel more of a walk through other parks.
We’ll then contrast that with the narrow, overgrown jungle of the permissive walking paths that have not been upgraded, so remain in the same neglected state in which they have been for years.
The summer growth quickly turns these walking routes into something resembling a jungle. We’ll pass along these narrow paths, avoiding the Brambles and Nettles that threaten to encroach as we explore these little-known routes in our only country park.
Wear long trousers and expect tall undergrowth in places then prepare to be surprised by the extent of the network of paths that people have made over the years. We’ll only use just a few of the paths today but there are others to explore. Come along and find out what Clyne has to offer.
