Start time: 10:00
(Estimated finish time: 14:30)
Moderate 7.5 miles / 12.1 km
An invitation to all female walkers - join us to celebrate International Women's Day (8th March) on this walk for women. Led by an experienced female walk leader, the walk from Tredegar Park to Fourteen Locks is a great way to socialise with other women and to get to know the group while doing something positive for your physical and mental wellbeing.
The route is a lovely 7.5 miles circular walk taking in a variety of different footpaths along a river, canal, nature reserve, ridgeway and even an ancient hillfort providing beautiful views towards the English Channel as well as nearby mountains, all nestled between Cardiff and Newport.
The walk takes us along the river Ebbw through High Cross to our first stop at the Fourteen Locks Canal Centre taking in its picturesque surroundings. From there we head along some restored locks of the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal to a nature reserve where we uncover a few of its secrets before gently sloping up to the ridgeway with its 360° views and a well-deserved lunch break. The last section of the walk will take us through a park and hillfort with views towards Newport and the Transporter Bridge before we descend again back to our starting point.
Meeting point details will be provided nearer the time to those booked to attend the walk. Location can be easily reached by car or bus.
Start time: 10:00
This is a circular walk
This walk will be at a moderate pace and has facilities at the beginning, end and throughout the walk. It is suitable for walkers relatively new to walking as it is fairly flat with two short and one longer ascent which we will take at a slower pace providing breaks to catch your breath. With just over 3 hours of pure walking time and two longer breaks, this would suit relative beginners who want to challenge themselves to a slightly longer walk with ascent. Please come equipped with sturdy shoes as, although mainly on well-maintained paths, we will negotiate short sections of muddy woodland and open fields.
If you would like to join this walk, please book your free place by contacting the walk leader using the contact details. Please do not turn up for a walk without booking as you will not be able to join and we will have to turn you away. If you are booked onto the walk but are unable to attend, please cancel your booking so someone else may take your place. The walk will start at 10am promptly so please allow enough time in the queue at the ticket machine and to put your gear on.
We will only use your contact details to get in touch about the walk or to share if requested with NHS Test and Trace.
The Ramblers are an inclusive organisation. We hope that this walk will create a safe space for new and current walkers to have a great day out and to find out more about joining us for future events.
