Moderate 9.5 miles / 15.3 km
From the car park we will go down and across the beautiful Olchon valley and then ascend Hatterrall Ridge to reach a high-level section of Offa’s Dyke path. This ascent is quite long and in parts quite steep, but everyone can take it at their own pace. My pace will not be fast! We then follow Offa’s Dyke path towards Hay Bluff until it joins with the path coming in from Black Hill. Here we start our return with a gentle incline to Black Hill and then finally down the rocky descent of Cat’s Back.
This is a lovely walk and on a fine day there will be fabulous far-ranging views over the Black Mountains and surrounding countryside. However, the weather conditions on these ridges can be quite unexpected. Please keep an eye on the weather forecast and check you have appropriate layers, sun protection, waterproofs etc.
Black Hill carpark and picnic area. please car share if possible.
