20 members travelled for a three day break to enjoy walking in Northumberland. We were based at the White Swan hotel in Alnwick which gave good access to both the coast and the hills inland.
Alnwick itself, with its Castle and Gardens provided plenty of interest for those who did not wish to join the led walks that had been organised.
On a rather misty Saturday one group met at Bamburgh Castle for a walk along the coast to Budle Bay. We moved inland before rejoining the coast at Monks House to return to Bamburgh along the beach.
A second group travelled further inland to undertake a walk in the hills above Kirknewton.
Sunday was rather brighter and eventually turned into a lovely sunny day. Most participants went to Craster where two walks were planned, one of about 5 miles and the other about 10 miles. Both took in the magnificent coastal scenery around Craster and visited sites such as Dunstanburgh Castle, Embleton Bay and Howick.
On Monday some left the hotel early for a visit to Holy Island (necessary to catch the tide) while others 'did their own thing' spending time closer to Alnwick and visiting the castle and gardens. Others visited Holy Island on the way back to Perth on Tuesday, when the later low tide meant a less early start!
We left the hotel on Tuesday morning after a very enjoyable stay with good food and hospitality, great company and magnificent scenery.
