Group name: Bridgend & District
This group is a part of Glamorgan Area.
Our activities include:
Short and easy walks, Dog-friendly walks
Bridgend & District Ramblers Group organise three walks most Sundays, a short (~ 5 miles), medium (~ 8 miles) and a long (~ 12 miles) walk. Our Sunday walks meet at Bridgend Recreation Centre Car Park and we are gone by 9:00 for the long walks and 9:30 for the others. See our programme for variants.
We also have a ~ 10 mile walk every other Tuesday. The meeting point for these walks is either Pyle Leisure Centre Car Park or Pencoed Swimming Pool Car Park, depending on the direction of the start point. See progtamme for details, we leave at 9:00.
Our Summer programme also contains short evening walks in the months May - August, on Wednesday evenings, meeting at the start point, leaving at 6:15pm.
We also have a fortnightly easy stroll, typically 3 miles, relatively flat and few if any styles. These take place on alternating Thursdays and meet at the start point, leaving at 10:30am. During the Autumn/winter of 2018/19 we're experimenting with Wednesday morning 5 mile walks, these will be publuished in future programmes if successful.
Our daytime short walks and strolls ususally finish about lunchtime and as if by magic near a pub, so we have a 'debrief' over a coffee or pint to continue the social aspect of our activities.
In addition to walks we have an active Footpaths Officer who is a point of contact for any footpath issues in the Bridgend Borough and he liaises regularly with local government officers on possible resolutions.
We run two 'away day' coach trips to farther afield locations which will include a walk and an opportunity to visit the local town.
Some of our long walkers also arrange weekends away to further extend the available walks on our programme.
You’re very welcome to try walking with us, or to get involved in looking after paths and green spaces and opening up new places to explore.
Dogs are generally welcome on our walks, however, it's advisable to contact the leader before bringing your dog along in case there are issues that make the walk unsuitable for dogs.
Aa well as our website www.bridgendramblers.co.uk we are on Facebook as Bridgend Ramblers and Twitter as @bridgendrambler. We welcome all contributions!
