Hampshire Area Ramblers covers Hampshire county and the 15 groups that reside within it, including two groups that cater predominantly for younger members – the 20s30s and the 40+.

Well served by both a good road and public transport network, our Area includes the New Forest National Park, some of the South Downs, and the North Wessex Downs as well as the cities of Southampton, Winchester and Portsmouth.   Our group walks include routes in neighbouring counties – West Sussex, Surrey, Wiltshire and Dorset.

Each group produces its own programme of walks, with a total of approximately 50 walks each week spread throughout the county and beyond.  The walks range from 4 mile leisurely strolls to 15+ miles more strenuous hikes for those who want a more demanding day out.

Walking in Hampshire and beyond

Hampshire offers varied and rich walking along the coast, across downland and heaths, through extensive woodland, along picturesque chalk rivers - the Itchen and the Test - through chocolate box thatched villages and over rolling hills.

There’s much to discover in Hampshire with lovely Saxon churches, historic market towns, many nature reserves with abundant wildlife.  We even boast the grave of one of the men who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun, Downton Abbey (Highclere Castle), Jane Austen’s Chawton House and Watership down where the novel of the same name was set.

Our 3000 miles of rights of way include classic well-waymarked routes such as the South Downs Way –  100 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne -  the Monarch’s Way, the Wayfarer’s Way, the Itchen Way and the Test Way, the Hangers Way, and many more.

Last but by no means least there are hundreds of amazing pubs for  after-walk drinks or a meal.
