New Walk Leader Information
We provide over 250 walks a year, all led by our group members. We welcome and need new walk leaders.

If you are interested in leading a walk or would like some support in walk leading please email southampton.ramblers.info@gmail.com

We can provide ideas for a walk, routes to download to your mobile phone and suggestions for local walk sources*. We can also provide practical help (buddying/mentoring) with planning and recceing the walk and also supporting you on the walk itself.

To lead a walk you need to be a member of the RA for insurance purposes and then be registered on Assemble as a volunteer Walk Leader. The only other requirement is to complete a Risk Assessment form after your recce of the walk, which we can help you with and then keep it for a year.

*Suggestions for local walk sources:-

  • Walking Apps e.g. View Ranger/Outdooractive, OS Maps, Komoot, Alltrails
  • Hampshire and New Forest Walks and pub walk books
  • Ramblers Routes (on the Ramblers website and Ramblers App)
  • OS Maps; the ones for our area are OL22 (New Forest), OL3 (Meon Valley), OL32 (Winchester) and EX131 (Romsey Andover and Test Valley)
