Our Area covers Hertfordshire and the London boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, acting as a link between the national organisation and our Groups. This map shows our geographical area and the boundaries of the local authorities within it.
Our Area Council consists of Area officers (see Contacts page) and representatives of each local Group, some affiliate organisations and individual members elected at the AGM. Its four meetings a year provide a forum for discussion of both local matters and national initiatives. We send representatives to the Ramblers General Council every Spring.
In this Area, our Footpath Secretaries are Area based rather than Group based. You can read more about our essential footpath work in the Rights of Way section.
We publish a journal called STILE twice a year, which is sent to all the members in our Area. You can download a PDF of the latest Stile from the Stile Journal page.
Calendar for 2021:
We have adjusted our method of work for Covid-19, and at the moment our meetings are taking place via Zoom. In normal times, Tuesday Meetings start at 7.30 at the Free Church Hall, Welwyn GC AL8 6PS
Our AGM is held each January and is open to all members. It usually mixes business and pleasure, with a morning walk and shared picnic before the AGM, and a talk and refreshments afterwards. This year, because of Covid restrictions, our AGM was held via Zoom. 50 members and guests were present.
The AGM papers are accessible below.
We hold training days for walk leaders when there is sufficient demand. If you would like training yourself, or want to put on a training session for your group, do get in touch with the Webmaster or the Chair (see Contacts page).
Our Area Walk Day is an annual event in late September / early October bringing groups together from across the Area to walk and socialise. We had to cancel last year, so particularly enjoyed our event in Chipperfield in October 2021. All the walks started from Chipperfield village.
Along with lovely villages, we explored the River Chess and the Grand Union Canal on the choice of morning and afternoon walks.
