Our Area covers Hertfordshire and the London boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, acting as a link between the national organisation and our Groups. This map shows our geographical area and the boundaries of the local authorities within it.
Our Area Council consists of Area officers (see Contacts page) and representatives of each local Group, some affiliate organisations and individual members elected at the AGM. Its four meetings a year provide a forum for discussion of both local matters and national initiatives. We send representatives to the Ramblers General Council every Spring.
In this Area, our Footpath Secretaries are Area based rather than Group based. You can read more about our essential footpath work in the Rights of Way section.
We publish a journal called STILE twice a year, which is sent to all the members in our Area.

A bench has been installed in memory of Norman Jones, at the high spot of the walk that he contributed for the Stile magazine shortly before he died (see Walk Routes page). Why not take a walk and have a rest there?
Our AGM is held each January and is open to all members. It mixes business and pleasure, with a morning walk and shared picnic before the AGM, and a talk and refreshments afterwards.
Our last AGM was held on 20th January 2018 at Woolmer Green Village Hall. There are links below to the Agenda and officers' reports for the 2018 AGM including minutes of the meeting.
After the official business, Phil Escritt gave a presentation on "The Shared Routes Controversy" - to what extent should cyclists have the right to use Footpaths?

The next AGM will be on Saturday 19 January 2019.
We hold training days for walk leaders when there is sufficient demand. If you would like training yourself, or want to put on a training session for your group, do get in touch with the Webmaster or the Chair (see Contacts page).
Our Area Walk Day is an annual event in late September bringing groups together from across the Area for walking followed by a bring-and-share tea. We've had a beautiful day every year.... until 2018. But this didn't deter large numbers of people turning up for the 7 walks on offer. Herts Weekend Walkers were particularly well represented:
There must have been something special about this tree:
