National Volunteer Awards
Every year Ramblers encourage their members around the whole of the country to recognise those, who have gone above and beyond in supporting other walkers. In 2019, our Area nominated Maggie Hems from the Liverpool Group for the Inspiring Walkers catgory.
Maggie has played a major role in promoting walking in our Area. She has been a leader of walks for many years, and many members will be aware of her regular contribution to the Winter Walks festival at Thurstaston. Although this Christmas walk that she leads is always very enjoyable, Maggie is probably best remembered by members for going the extra mile and bringing her home baked mince pies and handing them out at the lunch break!
As well as leading walks, Maggie has found the time over many years to support all Area members through the work she undertakes as Area Secretary. She is the link between the Area and Groups, and of course the link between Ramblers HQ and our members. Few of our members can be expected to be aware of the considerable amount of work that she undertakes on our behalf.
Our Ramblers members nominated Maggie for her contribution to "Inspiring Walkers". Following a national vote, it was confirmed at General Council in April, that Maggie had been voted the member in 2019, who had made the greatest impact in Inspiring Walkers.
Very well done Maggie, and keep baking those Christmas pies!
Have you ever wondered what it would be like joining a group of other women to walk the Dales Way, all in aid of a good cause? If so, you can contact Antonia Dewsbury on 07870622096 or (email@example.com).
