Guidelines for Walk Leaders

• Must have a current membership of The Ramblers
• Should welcome new walkers and introduce them to the group
• Should appoint a Back Marker
• Should count the number of walkers before, approximately halfway through, and at the end of every walk
• Should set a walking pace within the capability of the entire party
• May cancel or change any walk at their discretion. The Walk Leader or deputy should go to the normal group meeting point to advise any walkers of the change in plans
• Should make a note of the phone number of any visitors that indicate their intention of attending the walk and ring them back if the walk is to be cancelled or changed
• Should give return time(s) to the bus driver where applicable
• May turn away any walker not properly equipped
• Must provide detailed directions to start point of walk (including car SatNav reference where possible)
• Should check if any events are scheduled to take place which may conflict with the walk
• Should check for lambing season, grouse shooting, deer stalking etc. in area of walk
