Under 18s are welcome to join our walks provided that they are accompanied by a responsible adult who has checked with the walk leader that the walk is suitable for the young person’s age and ability. Well behaved dogs are welcome on our walks, however the owner should check with the walk leader beforehand in case there any potential hazards that would make it inadvisable to bring a dog. Dog owners must comply with the walk leader’s instructions with regard to restraining the dog when near livestock or on roads.
We strongly recommend that all walkers wear good walking boots and bring waterproof clothing appropriate for the time of year. We often walk through very muddy areas so a change of footwear is advisable. You will also need a packed lunch, drinks and snacks.
The contact details for the walk leader are given for each walk. They are not only responsible for the route but also for the basic safety of the group. Walkers are requested to walk with or behind the leader and not to stray off alone unless by prior arrangement with the leader. A back marker will be appointed by the leader who will ensure that no walker is left behind. The pace of the walk will be adjusted to take all abilities into account.
Walkers are strongly advised to keep some basic personal information about their person; especially their own name and address, who to contact in an emergency and details of any medical conditions. We provide emergency contact cards for our members – please contact us if you need one.
All sporting and leisure activities have potential hazards and rambling is no exception. Despite the fact that the safety of walkers is always of paramount concern, accidents will occasionally happen. It is important therefore that, when participating in the activity, individuals appreciate that they have a personal responsibility to identify hazards and take all necessary steps to eliminate or minimise the potential for an accident to occur.
Please note that distances given in our programme are given as a rough guide only and may be reduced or increased on the day in the interests of safety or due to unforeseen circumstances. The Committee and/or walk leaders reserve the right to make any necessary changes to the route.
