About our walks programme

Newcomers are very welcome to come along on any one of our walks.

We walk every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month, and 1st, 2nd & 4th Thursdays of the month.  Due to Covid we are currently not publishing a detailed walks programme but walks will be offered a few days in advance so check your emails and our websites and Facebook pages for the latest up to date information.

Walks are varied so there will be something to suit everyone, from a full day energetic walk in the Shopshire or Welsh hills to a gentle stroll around the Town Park. Some are 3-5 mile half day walks, just bring a drink and a snack, other walks are 6-10miles, 5-7 hours and you'll need a packed lunch too and to bring your own hand sanitiser in case of stiles and gates. Walks are graded easy, moderate or strenuous. Some walks are themed, e.g. local history, wildlife, bluebells, famous people or places.

In the usual 'pre Covid' programmes there were monthly short and social walks ending at a local pub or cafe and family walks for all some summer Sundays, these and other social events have been suspended during the pandemic.

Our friendly walks leaders are always happy to chat to you over the phone about walk details or what you might need to bring or wear. You don't have to be especially fit or a fast walker to join a Ramblers walk, however, if you have any questions about your fitness just ask them.

Dogs are allowed, at the leader's discretion, on a lead, but you must please check with the leader before arriving at the walk start. Assistant guide dogs are permitted on all walks

Due to Covid our normal car sharing arrangements are suspended and walkers should go direct to the walk start point to meet the walk leader at the advertised times.  Participants will be limited to between 5 and 11 walkers maximum depending on Govt. restrictions and car parking availabilty. Please be aware that adverse weather or road closures may force last minute changes, it is a good idea to check with the leader or check for messages from the leader the evening before.Booking with the leader is essential. You cannot just turn up because of the number restriction.

As we develop this new way of organising group walks, we will keep you informed. there is more local information about Corona virus on our website.

There are detailed descriptions of of every walk in our published Walks Programme, together with information about walk grades, walk start times, meeting points and how to contact the walk leader. Our Walks programme is normally published as a centrefold in our Spring and Autumn Editions of the Walks Programme and Newsletter. Due to Covid at present we are only printing a newsletter and notifying members of walks via email, webiites and social media.

Hf holidays supports our group by contributing to the costs of printing our walks programme.  Ramblers Worldwide Holidays supports our Group with funding from The Walking Partnership which enables our newsletter and walks programme to be posted to members without email and internet access and helps fund our other projects. You can find out more about how this works to our mutual benefit plus local discounts to members click on this link to our website.
