So much being achieved by volunteers to improve opportunities for walking - including the T50 (50km) walking trail in the Telford area, the Shropshire way new main route, Hidden Gem walks in Market Drayton and a lot of work on protecting and improving rights of way.

The calling notice for the Shropshire Area Annual General Meeting which is taking place in Market Drayton on Saturday 26th January at 2pm is available here. All members welcome to attend.

NOVEMBER GROUP NEWSLETTER is available here to download. Many thanks to Peter Danby and contributors for putting this together.

CHRISTMAS LUNCH. It was great to see so many at the Christmas lunch at the Keys in St Martins. Many thanks to them for feeding us so well, to Ceinwen for co-ordinating and to Bruce and Cathy for the walk beforehand.

SOCIAL EVENING AND AGM. Thanks to all who contributed to this enjoyable evening, with an excellent talk, cheese tasting and food.  Our new Chair is Lorna Gwilliam. Diane Gray has also joined the Committee. Barbara Pryce-Jones remains as social secretary but is being replaced by Colin Chandler as membership secretary. Huw Jones is standing down from the Committee (but is still organising the walks for our Aberdaron holiday). Many thanks to Bruce (our outgoing Chair), Barbara and Huw for all their efforts. Colin Chandler and Bob Kimber are Area reps and Bob has stood down from the Walking Environment role. Other roles remain the same. For details see Contact the Committee page.

OSWALD'S TRAIL

Have you tried out this circular route around Oswestry? On Sunday 9 September we walked the route using the trail leaflet and identified where we could improve the walk directions to make it easier to follow. 16 people completed all or half of the route (11 mile or 5.5 miles) from Gateacre Car Park or the Racecourse.  We plan to produce a new trail leaflet including the new shortcut along the railway from Wilfred Owen Green. If you have any comments on the current leaflet or improvements to suggest please contact Maggie on webmaster@oswestryramblers.org.uk

SHROPSHIRE WAY

The whole of the new main route of the Shropshire Way is now complete and waymarked with improved paths, stiles and gates. For more information see the NEW edition of the newsletter and website.  Sorting out the route is a huge achievement and we will definitely be using it for walks in the future. A new guidebook is being written by John Gillham and he has produced a 15 minute film which is available here on YouTube
