The Tanat to Perry Community Wildlife group was set up to study the local populations of Curlew and Lapwing as their numbers both locally and nationally have plumeted in recent years.  As Oswestry Ramblers members are out and about in the countryside all the time, you may like to be involved in this project and your local knowledge would be valuable.  You do not need to be an expert birdwatcher.  If you would like to help in the project, please contact Claire Backshall  Further info on the 2019 survey and how you can help is here.

Have you tried out this circular route around Oswestry? On Sunday 9 September we walked the route using the trail leaflet and identified where we could improve the walk directions to make it easier to follow. 16 people completed all or half of the route (11 mile or 5.5 miles) from Gateacre Car Park or the Racecourse.  We plan to produce a new trail leaflet including the new shortcut along the railway from Wilfred Owen Green. If you have any comments on the current leaflet or improvements to suggest please contact Maggie on

The whole of the new main route of the Shropshire Way is now complete and waymarked with improved paths, stiles and gates. For more information see the NEW edition of the newsletter and website.  Sorting out the route is a huge achievement and we will definitely be using it for walks in the future. A new guidebook is being written by John Gillham and he has produced a 15 minute film which is available here on YouTube
