Overview

Distance: 7.5 miles (12.8 km)

Grade: Medium — a few steep, slippery, and muddy sections, so good footwear and reasonable fitness are needed.

Start Point: River Point Car Park, Newnham-on-Severn (approx. 20 spaces available).

🗺 Description:
Starting at the Severn’s waterline and ascending into the Forest of Dean, this circular walk offers a bit of everything — river views, woodland trails, and open countryside.
We'll begin in the picturesque village of Newnham-on-Severn, following paths that gradually climb towards Soudley Ponds, with panoramic views of the Severn Vale along the way. After a scenic forest stretch, the route descends back towards the river, tracing the Severn’s edge as we make our return to Newnham.

☕ Post-walk option:
After the walk, we’ll head to The White Hart Inn in Newnham for a well-earned coffee (or something stronger!) and a chance to unwind.

🚗 Parking / Travel:
Spaces at River Point Car Park are limited (around 20), so please consider car-sharing where possible. Additional parking can be found in the village if needed.

🥾 Notes:
Expect some steep or muddy sections — walking boots are essential. This route is best suited to those comfortable with a moderate-level hike.
