We are the Hike Essex Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
A stunning walk from Shotely Gate to Ipswich along the magnificent River Orwell. Starting with a ferry trip from Harwich to Shotley Gate, we leave Felixstowe docks for a mixed landscape of beaches and woods. We eventually arrive in Ipswich along riverside paths. Along the way we encounter many stunning views of the Orwell and also pass through picturesque Pin Mill.
Please bring a picnic, we will find a nice beach to stop and eat. We can also stop at the famous Suffolk Food Hall, which is on the path, for a drink and maybe a slice of cake.
Good footwear recommended.

We will meet at 9.35 at the Harwich Pier. The Ferry for Shotley Gate leaves at 9:50 and costs £4.40. It is a short trip but provides great harbour views.
The walk itself is reasonably flat.
If driving, I recommend parking at Manningtree Station and take the 09:00 train to Harwich Town, arriving 09.22. There are plenty of trains back to Manningtree from Ipswich at the end of the walk. Manningtree station and has very regular connections to London, Colchester and Chelmsford. We will meet on Harwich pier and wait for the ferry at the start.
