Overview

This walk covers some beautiful countryside north east of Buntingford which cannot have changed much in the last few hundred years. The area is sparsely populated and you can walk for miles without seeing a soul. We will start from the village of Anstey, famous for its church, motte and bailey castle, and legend of the disappearance of a blind fiddler in 1750. The views across the open fields are extensive. We will pause briefly in the village of Hare Street at a house with an interesting history, then proceed through some ancient lanes and footpaths to Great Hormead. Passing Hormead Hall we then cross the fields back to Anstey via the tiny hamlets of Daw's End and Snow End.
