Overview

A walk from old Coundon Station car park through Bishop Auckland deer park and fields towards  Byers Green and return along railway paths.

Wednesday, 29 November 2023
Start time:
10:30 am
Estimated finish time:
3:00 pm
Difficulty:
Moderate
Distance:
12.9km / 8.0mi
Ascent:
167.6m / 550ft
Type:
circular

The walk is mainly along good paths but the part through the deer park and across the fields was a bit boggy and wet in places.  There are a number of stiles, some in good condition, some not so good.  There were sheep, cows and horses in fields on the reccie though none gave any trouble.

The Auckland project GLOW event is on now in the deer park but it will not be lit when we go through.  They have confirmed entry to the park is fine and free until the event starts around 4pm each evening when we will be long gone.

Refreshments after at the Park Head Hotel.
