Austrey, Warton and North Warwickshire.
Alan and Fay Oversby will lead Saturday's 5 mile walk starting at 13.30 from The Bird in Hand Church Lane Austrey Warwickshire CV9 3EG Parking by kind permission of the landlord, Gareth. Anyone who is intending to stay for a drink at the end of the walk may use the car park of the (award winning) Bird in Hand. The pub is renowned for its wide choice of good craft beers which are always on offer. Alternatively there is street parking in the adjacent Church Lane.
We will leave Austrey via Main Road and Cinder Lane until we turn off Cinder Lane onto the paths that lead to Warton. Skirting the edge of Warton we follow a cinder path up and past the ruins of Bramcote Hall then turn left to descend to Warton Lane which we cross over to join paths back up towards Austrey. If dry on the day the paths will take us towards and through the woods outside Austrey, and through the grounds of St Nicholas' Church adjacent to the Bird in Hand. (If not, it will be back into Austrey via Cinder Lane and Main Road).
There were some muddy patches on the paths but all were passable on Thursday
11 April, no stiles at all on the route,
just a few kissing gates.
