We walk down towards the River Welland, crossing the B1443 and following the river valley for two miles. Back across the road, we enter the Burghley Estate. A short section on the Old Great North Road follows along a wide grassy verge and we re-enter Burghley park at the golf club. We are now on Ermine Street Roman Road which became the Hereward Way and pass through the beautiful parkland, moving onto the edge of Walcot Park and back into Barnack.
Good tracks and well drained grassland mean there should be little mud on this walk but do take the preceding weather conditions into account before choosing what to wear. A stick or two are always useful.
Usual stops for refreshments and lunch. Something to sit on is useful to protect you from damp ground. A portable stool, fold up mat or a simple plastic bag will do.
