Overview

From the popular grounds of tourist hotspot Shibden Hall, we will ascend to the panoramic views over Halifax and beyond at Beacon Hill. From there we will ramble through historic and beautiful farmland and woods along to Cromwell Wood and Southowram, and back to start via Sunny Bunsers.

As ever, Calderdale weather is notoriously unpredictable so be prepared, especially with footwear as some parts of the route can be muddy even in summertime.

Bring a packed lunch, however refreshments will be available at the end of the walk at Shibden Park's cafe or in the nearby pubs.

Meet in Shibden Lower carpark at Mereside. This is pay and display, and prices have recently risen. Carsharing or public transport is recommended. The carpark is signposted clearly off the main Leeds Road just before Stump Cross.
