Join us for a leisurely paced 10 mile walk from Benson, alongside the River Thames, over farmland crossing Shillingford Bridge, and with a chance to visit Wittenham Clumps and Dorchester. Weather permitting, we'll have an extended 40 min break in Dorchester, allowing time after lunch to explore the Abbey and historic village, and/or enjoy a drink in one of the village inns. We'll then return to Benson via the village of Warborough - remembering to turn around and enjoy the views of the Clumps behind us. There is a 355ft climb up to the Clumps and the rest of the walk is largely flat.
Meet for a 10:45 start at the layby opposite Benson Waterfront Café. Free parking is available on St Helens Avenue. By public transport, take the X40 bus from Reading at 09:35, arriving at Benson at 10:35.
If anyone would like to, and the weather is good, there is an option to visit the Benson Waterfront Cafe after the walk.
As usual, please bring a packed lunch, snacks, something to drink and sun lotion/sun hat if it's warm, as there's not much shade after lunch. No dogs on this walk please.
