This circular walk follows a section of the South Dorset Ridgeway, and returns via a section of the South West Coast Path. There are fine sea views over Weymouth Bay and towards Portland, as well as of the White Horse.
We meet at Icen Lane, then head North up a long moderately steep hill, through Bincombe to the top of the South Dorset Ridgeway. From there we follow the Ridgeway East, past Chalbury Hill Fort and the White Horse before descending into the village of Osmington. We cross the road and take a footpath down towards Osmington Mills where we will probably take lunch on the beach. After lunch we pick up the South West Coast Path back towards Weymouth. From Preston Beach Road we cut inland through the Lodmoor nature reserve and Lorton Valley back to the start point.
There may be a odd muddy patch along the way, but nothing too bad.
Expect the usual 4050 brisk pace.
Bring drinks, snacks and a packed lunch to keep you going.
There are one or two easy stiles.
Public toilets at Osmington Mills.
No dogs except RAD.
