We are the North Hampshire Downs Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
Stage 3 of Basingstoke to Hamble.
Train and bus to Bishops Sutton. Climbing southwards over farmland to Cheriton Wood. Then down into the upper Itchen valley, past Hinton Ampner NT, joing the Wayfarers Walk to Kilmeston, where there will be a break. Then climbing again to the ridge of the South Downs at Kilmeston Down. Past Preshaw House on the Monarchs Way to Lower Preshaw, for a lunch stop. Continue down the valley and over another hill to the upper Hamble valley. Finally up to the church and down into the small town of Bishop's Waltham. Bus and train back to Basingstoke.
Meet at 08.05 at Basingstoke station to catch 08.14 train to Winchester. Then we'll walk through Winchester to catch the no. 64 bus at 08.50 for Bishop's Sutton. From there it's mostly on good paths and tracks but expect mud. Poles advised. Bring refreshments for a morning break and food/drink for a lunch stop. Plenty of ascent and descent. A few stiles near Kilmeston. Toilets at Basingstoke and Winchester. Cafes at Bishops Waltham. Bus 64 from Winchester Broadway, and bus 69 back to Winchester Library.
