A moderate, 6 mile, circular walk. From Bolam Lake, Boathouse Wood car park, we follow an established path around part of Bolam Lake, till we cross a minor road and continue over farm tracks towards East Shaftoe Hall. With gentle undulation throughout, we traverse craggy fields till we encounter Riper's Chair and Shaftoe Craggs, returning through Salters Nick. We walk along a minor road for a short distance on our return, till we head through woodland back to the car park.
Please note, there are cows in most of the wide open spaces on the walk.
**Christmas Jumpers/hats are actively encouraged**
Directions from Chester le Street: Take the A1 north for approx. 13 miles and leave at the Airport Junction. Turn left at the roundabout onto the A696. Continue on the A696, through a number roundabouts for approx. 11 miles. As you leave Belsay look out for the brown sign for Bolam Lake Country Park on the right (be careful not to turn onto the B6524 immediately before it). After 2 miles turn right onto the road signed for Whalton, Hartburn & Bolam. The car park is on your left approx. 60 metres on. It is signed Bolam Lake Country Park, Boat House Wood Car Park. NB this car park has the Cafe.
