This circular walk takes in the undulating rural, mainly agricultural area to the east of the ancient village of Brent Pelham. We will encounter very few other people out walking in these parts, which are peppered with small cottages, wooded areas and sunken green lanes in a landscape that has probably not changed very much for centuries. This includes passing through the grounds of Berden Priory which can trace its ancestry back to the 1100s.
We start in the car park of the Grade II-Listed Black Horse public house by kind permission of the owners. This pub, the oldest section of which dates back to the 1600s, has recently been extensively yet tastefully restored and offers a fine menu.
At the end of the walk will be a further opportunity for refreshments at the Black Horse.
Starting point: park at the Black Horse, Brent Pelham, SG9 0AP
