Overview

West Mendip Walkers moderate to strenuous 10m circular walk from Step’s Bridge car park on B3212 (EX6 7EQ). We begin by walking up the B3212 a short distance before entering Bridford Wood. After a steady climb along a broad track we reach and cross the B3212 to descend into St Thomas Cleave Wood to meet the River Teign. We follow the river upstream some distance and then turn sharply left uphill to a track at first heading north west and then south west through Coleridge Wood and Halls Cleave before exiting on to Marden Down at Headless Cross. The route crosses the Down and offers a view of Haytor in the west and Mid Devon to the north. We descend through scrub to the B3212 again and walk along it for some 200m before turning right up a quiet country lane to Westcott. At Westcott we pick up a path to Lower Heltor on to Thorn Farm and Burniscombe and finally Lowton Farm where it descends on a broad rough track to the start point.
