This is a lovely circular walk on good tracks, grassy paths, minor roads and riverside path.
We will be starting from the riverside car park, picking up a section of the John Buchan Way, and before starting at the foot of the hill, taking a gentle pace up to the remains of an iron age settlement and fort (400m), with nice views across the surrounding area. We then descend downhill on the grassy slopes where we reach the minor road, with a short walk alongside the Manor Water, where we can have a short stop off at the picnic tables.
We will then continue on our route along to the Kirkton Manor turning left heading to Barns Tower - a pink-painted old tower house, before reaching the banks of the River Tweed, where we will have our lunch stop, before following the banks of this famed salmon river until Manor Bridge and cross over the river and heading up steps onto the route of the old railway line, and then back onto the riverbank. The path passes beneath the dramatic Neidpath Castle, before returning along the riverside back into Peebles.
There will be time at the end of the walk for some refreshments before the bus departs.
